A MERN full stack internship teaches you to build both halves of a web application: the server and database that hold the data, and the interface people use. MERN stands for MongoDB, Express, React and Node.js. The Dnyx Academy program takes one month and is done from home.
It is a learning-cum-internship with the same rhythm every week: learning and building every day, a hands-on Wednesday workshop, Fun Friday, a Saturday Placement Spotlight Session and Sunday off. Each week ends with an assignment, and the month ends with a capstone.
Week 1: Web foundations and Node.js
You refresh HTML, CSS and JavaScript, learn how Node.js and npm work, and build your first routes with Express. You also design a REST API, which is the set of addresses your front end will call.
Week 2: MongoDB and the backend
Week two is about data and security. You work with MongoDB and practise create, read, update and delete operations, then use Mongoose to model your data. You add authentication with JSON Web Tokens and learn how middleware handles requests and errors.
Week 3: React frontend and integration
You learn hooks for managing state and React Router for moving between pages, and you structure a component-based interface so it stays readable as it grows. Then you connect the React app to the API you built in the first two weeks, so the pieces work together.
Week 4: Capstone and deployment
You build a complete full stack application, deploy it to a hosting platform, and present it as part of a portfolio. A deployed project with a clear README is much easier to show an employer than a folder of code on your laptop. You receive a completion certificate at the end.
What you need before you start
You do not need to be an expert, but you will move faster if you have seen basic HTML and some JavaScript. The guide How to prepare before your internship starts lists a few hours of easy preparation.
