A short internship can still help your resume if you describe it well. The goal is to show what you did and what you built, not just where you were.
Where it goes
If you have little work history, put Projects and Internships high on the page, right after your summary and education. Recruiters look for evidence of work first.
The simple template
``` Role or programme name | Organisation | Month Year to Month Year
- What you built, in one line, with the tools used
- How you tested, deployed or presented it
- One concrete detail: a number, a feature or a problem you solved
`
Turning tasks into strong bullet points
Weak: "Learned React and Node."
Better: "Built a task manager with React, Node and MongoDB: sign-in, create and edit tasks, and a search filter."
Weak: "Worked on a project."
Better: "Cleaned a 5,000-row dataset with pandas and trained a model to predict house prices, then compared two approaches."
Use real numbers only. If you are not sure of a number, leave it out.
Be honest about the size
A one-month programme is a one-month programme. Say "Internship (1 month, remote)". Describing it accurately builds trust, and interviewers will ask about it anyway.
Add proof
- A link to the project on GitHub and a live link if it is deployed.
- The certificate with its verification link, in the certifications section or on LinkedIn.
- A short README for each project.
Mistakes to avoid
- Listing skills you cannot talk about. Expect questions on everything on the page.
- Copying a friend's bullet points. Interviewers can tell.
- Long paragraphs. Use short bullets.
- Making a one-month learning programme sound like a full-time job.
- Leaving out your projects because they are "small".
A quick checklist
- One page, clean and readable
- Contact details, a professional email and your LinkedIn link
- Projects with links
- Internship described with what you built
- No spelling mistakes (read it aloud once)
FAQ
Can I put a one-month internship on my resume?
Yes. Describe it honestly as a one-month programme and focus on what you built.
Should I include the certificate?
Include it in your certifications section with a link if it can be verified, and make sure a project backs it up.
How many projects should a fresher list?
Two or three good ones with links are better than six unfinished ones.
What if my internship was online?
That is fine. Write "remote" or "work from home" next to it, as many teams work that way.
